Joan Horvath
Peer Coach Apprentice/Staff Developer

Joan Horvath works at Mira Mesa High School in the San Diego Unified School District. San Diego is the sixth largest district in the country and is presently planning on staffing each of its 176 K-12 schools with a Peer Coach.

Joan teaches model lessons, observes and assists fellow teachers, and assists the principal and vice-principals in bringing sound teaching practices to the classroom via staff development meetings.

Joan has used CNN Student News since its inception in 1989 as she feels it has greatly enhanced student learning of current events. She currently does model lessons for classrooms and teachers who wish to integrate portions of the news into their classrooms.

Joan received her BA in History from San Diego State University and her MA in Administration from Point Loma Nazarene College. She is a Fellow from both the University of California at San Diego's Writing Project as well as the University's Asian Project.
