![]() Dear Educator, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Turner Learning, Inc., in partnership with your local cable company, are pleased to provide you with this Educator's Guide for TCM's series TCM By the Book: Stage to Screen. This guide and the series is intended to help you introduce classic film adaptations of stage plays in your classroom and to illustrate and illuminate the elements of drama and film. Suggested activities and assessments in this guide link each film to objectives outlined in the NCTE standards. This program is not intended to replace the study of drama with films, but rather to provide students with the opportunity to evaluate the same story in two different mediums. For each classic film, we have included:
TCM and Turner Learning are proud to provide educators and students access to classic films that may be viewed and discussed in an educational setting. These timeless classics can be a valuable teaching tool in the classroom. Films based on stage plays can help students make connections to the classics through a familiar genre, thereby encouraging their interest in drama. Turner Learning is dedicated to enhancing and enriching classroom curriculums by making selected resources of Turner Broadcasting available to schools and libraries in the U.S., Canada and abroad. We truly hope you enjoy using the TCM By the Book: Stage to Screen series with your students and that you encourage other educators to participate in this exciting program. We look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, |
