Dear Educator
Turner Network Television (TNT), Turner Learning, Inc. and your local cable
operator are pleased to provide you with TNT Learning's educational materials to
accompany the upcoming TNT Original ANIMAL FARM. TNT Learning, an ongoing
educational series developed by TNT, promotes the use of cable television to
engage students in the process of learning. ANIMAL FARM is the first
original production offered in the TNT Learning series for the 1999-2000 school
year.
Premiering Sunday, October 3, 1999 at 8PM (ET), TNT's ANIMAL FARM brings
George Orwell's classic masterpiece to your classroom. The thought-provoking satire
uses allegory to illustrate social injustice, political oppression, and greed,
resulting in a revolution by the oppressed. TNT's version of ANIMAL FARM
brings the revolution to life through the use of computronic characters created by
Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
TNT Learning provides a vehicle for teachers to engage
students in analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating great works of literature by
providing video counterparts and educational materials to integrate this film
into current teaching objectives. Students are encouraged to interpret the novel
while they consider the decisions and techniques filmmakers use to convey a
video perspective, a key element in
media
literacy. Examining extended metaphors,
satires, allegories,
plot, point-of-view,
symbolism, and the novel genre
provides work in language arts. Investigating multiple perspectives
emphasizes history goals. Finally, teachers can use the
film as a reference point for learning about forms of government
and economic systems.
The educational materials are designed to meet a variety of curriculum formats
and learning styles. Included are the following:
