Using the "Teaching Storytelling" Video: Phenix City

Voices & Moods
Esperanza Smith helps students understand how varying voices can improve a story. She
shows students how they have low, middle, and high pitches for creating characters'
voices, as well as slow and fast tempos, and loud and soft volumes. Note the effective
use of cue cards as she has students say various words and phrases, such as the card for "oh."
